Recently, landmark progress has been made in the industrial-chain cooperation for construction machinery between Jiangsu and Hunan provinces. Sany Group, Zoomlion and Hengli Hydraulic have formally signed a long-term designated supporting agreement covering hydraulic cylinders, pumps and valves. Domestic hydraulic cylinders have officially become standard fittings for the mainstream models of the two original equipment manufacturers, marking a new stage of deep-rooted import substitution for core hydraulic components in China’s construction machinery industry.
Jiangsu hosts a leading domestic industrial cluster for hydraulic components, while Hunan is home to world-leading construction machinery OEMs. The two provinces feature a highly complementary framework of “Hunan-built complete machinery plus Jiangsu-sourced core components”. This cooperation represents a key practice for cross-provincial efforts to strengthen and shore up the industrial chain. Under the agreement, Hengli Hydraulic will ensure stable supply of core components including hydraulic cylinders, pumps and valves for Sany and Zoomlion’s mainstream construction machinery models. The cooperation is upgraded from ad-hoc procurement to long-term designated support, further bolstering supply-chain security for complete machinery products.
The three parties will set up a joint R&D team to pursue technical breakthroughs targeting cutting-edge industry segments, with two core focuses: lightweight hydraulic cylinders for large-tonnage equipment and energy-recovery hydraulic cylinders for electric construction machinery. Lightweight cylinders will be developed to satisfy requirements for weight reduction, high strength and long service life under working conditions of large-tonnage equipment. For electrified construction machinery, new-generation hydraulic cylinders with potential-energy recovery functions will be developed to cut overall machine energy consumption, improve the endurance of new-energy construction machinery, and advance the green electrification transformation of the sector.
Driven by the electrification and high-end upgrade wave sweeping the construction machinery industry, OEMs have set higher standards for the reliability, energy efficiency and customization capabilities of hydraulic components. This deep collaboration between leading machinery OEMs and China’s premier hydraulic enterprise breaks the conventional buyer-supplier relationship and shifts to a co-innovation model with front-loaded demand alignment and parallel development. It will accelerate the localization of high-end hydraulic technologies, lower reliance on imported components, and strengthen the overall competitiveness of China’s full construction-machinery industrial chain.
Industry insiders point out that thanks to continuous performance improvements of domestic hydraulic components, it has become a prevailing industry trend for home-grown hydraulic cylinders, pumps and valves to evolve from alternative spare parts to mainstream standard configurations. The Jiangsu-Hunan industrial-chain cooperation case can serve as a reference for collaborative innovation among domestic upstream and downstream participants, and foster greater self-reliance over more key core components.
